NLS Services Restored - Govt. Shutdown Ended
Summary
On November 12, Congress passed, and the President signed into law, a full-year appropriations bill to fund the legislative branch, including the Library of Congress, for FY 2026.
As of November 13, 2025, NLS has returned to normal operations.
NLS will resume book and magazine production and distribution, braille digitization, updates to catalog records, internal and external outreach and communications, support for NLS network libraries, research and development, reference and information services, special projects, music and overseas circulation, distribution of new currency reader devices, and Patron Engagement programming. Please be patient as we work to fully resume operations. There is a large backlog of work to address, particularly of catalog records.
Playback devices that were requested during the shutdown will be deployed in order of the date requested.
