OLIS will provide registration to Library Journal courses on topics including managing conflict, de-escalation, project management and trauma-informed service.

Interested library staff should fill out this survey as soon as possible to be included; applications will be considered on a rolling basis and attendees will be notified at least 2 weeks before the start date of the course. **Staff interested in the Strategies for Managing Conflict with Colleagues and Patrons should fill out the form by Friday, March 8 as this course starts on Tuesday, March 12**

  • Strategies for Managing Conflict with Colleagues and Patrons- 3 Week online course + workshop, Tuesdays, March 12, 29, 26: Enhance your work life and relationships by learning how to approach difficult interactions and conversations with confidence. Best for: public-facing librarians and staff, managers and directors
  • Trauma-Informed Librarianship: Centering Relationships and Care - 3-week online course + workshop, Thursdays, April 11, 18, 25 - Unlock the transformative power of trauma-informed librarianship to create psychologically and emotionally safer and more inclusive spaces for patrons, students, and staff. Best for: public-facing librarians and staff, managers and directors. 
  • Project Management Fundamentals for Librarians- 4-week online course + workshop, Tuesdays, April 16, 23, May 7, 21 - Drive greater impact in your community, and realize greater efficiency and confidence in your work, by becoming proficient in project management skills. Best for: any librarian whose role involves planning and completing mid- to large-scale projects, including program development, community outreach, children’s and adult services, grant projects and more. 
  • How to Apply Restorative Justice in Your Library - 2-week online course, Tuesday April 30 and May 14 - Create safer libraries while centering equity, relationships, and accountability. Best for: all librarians with a new or emerging understanding of restorative justice practices. 
  • De-escalation Training for Libraries - 2-hour online crash course, Thursday, May 30 - In this crash course, you will learn trauma-informed, equity-centered practices for de-escalation in order to maintain a calm environment at your library. Best for: any librarian or educator who faces safety risks, high tension, or conflict in the workplace. This course will be particularly good for frontline workers and those who come into the most contact with disgruntled patrons or students.
